The band presents an eclectic program of traditional bluegrass, swing, authentic old time fiddle and banjo instrumentals, beautiful ballads and selections from contemporary writers.

Our instrumentation is guitar, two fiddles, banjo, dobro and upright bass. Our vocals include solos, duets and tight three and four part harmonies.

Judy Bolles - fiddle, voice
Judy has played fiddle and sung in traditional folk bands in the New England area, offering old-time, contemporary folk, swing, contra dance, English country dance, Irish, bluegrass, and holiday music. She often joined the original South County Rounders (Matt and Phil), adding fiddle and vocal harmonies to the popular duo. Judy has spent an equal amount of time performing in area symphony orchestras and classical ensembles and has played for theatre, opera and dance productions, weddings and for many other events. Experienced in choral and small ensemble singing, she also enjoys singing with the Accidental Sisters, a women’s world music acapella ensemble based in Jamestown RI, which donates their proceeds to charities.

Matt Bolles- guitar, bass, ukulele, voice
Matt Bolles has been active on the acoustic music scene in southern New England since his college days, when he and his trio, The Pockets, played coffee houses and college campuses, and made a guest appearance at the Newport Folk Festival. Since then, Matt has sung and played bass and guitar with a number of popular bands, including the Banana Bunkhouse Boys, the Fiasco Brothers, the award winning Special Delivery bluegrass band, and Parallel String Band. Matt has also been a tenor soloist with the Swanhurst Chorus of Newport, and has played lead roles in more than 30 stage musicals and dramas in Jamestown and Newport. In 1984, while still working with the Special Delivery band, Matt and Phil decided to form the duo, South County Rounders. The “Rounders” drew instant acclaim for their energy and variety and became featured performers at festivals, live radio shows and concert events, including many appearances at the famed RI Cajun and Bluegrass festival. Matt is thrilled with this new, even more versatile version of the South County Rounders. In his spare time, Matt teaches guitar and bass, and coaches singers in his home studio.

Chris Heinzmann: fiddle, voice
Chris grew up in Berlin, Connecticut, and started playing fiddle while in high school. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1984 and has lived in the state ever since. In all those years Chris has played many different styles of music with many groups including bluegrass with The Northwind Bluegrass Band, folk with singer/songwriter/poet Grant Peeples, and Parallel String Band, classic rock with Band MLC, country with Country Mix, and classical with the Rhode Island College Chamber Orchestra. He plays lead and harmony fiddle with the Rounders and even sings occasionally. He also enjoys teaching fiddle to folks of all ages. Chris lives with his family in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Phil Smith: guitar, banjo, dobro, voice
Phil has played with numerous Southern New England acoustic music bands since moving to Rhode Island from upstate New York for a semester off 40 years ago. He has been a member of the Fiasco Brothers, Three-Legged Horse, Bill Hall and The Northwind Bluegrass Band, Bluegrass Special / Special Delivery, and others. Phil and Matt started the original South County Rounders as a duo in 1984. He plays guitar – flat picking and finger style, banjo, and dobro, and sings lead and harmony vocals. By day he is a wine purchaser with a local distributor.
